Apple Appreciation Award
The Apple Appreciation Award was initiated by Roy O’Neill, the first Executive Director of the NYSAAA. He always strived to keep the vision that the NYSAAA was a “grassroots” organization, which survived on the premise of volunteerism and giving. Many have stepped up to the plate over the years since 1981 to give of their time, effort and expertise, to make this association successful. Since 1981, this association has been the life blood of athletic administration in New York State, as well as contributing significantly at the national level through the NIAAA. The Apple Appreciation Award is given to those individual members who have played a vital part in the success of the association, not necessarily at the state or national level, but more importantly, at the “grass roots” level, within their leagues and chapters. It is given to those who are loyal members - contributors and givers, who volunteer their time and effort to make this a better and more productive association which is vital to the professional development of athletic administrators across New York State, but who don’t necessarily receive recognition for their contributions. Its purpose is also to encourage members to step forward and be active in the association, whether it be at the local or state level. Over the years this award has evolved from a select number given each year, to present day where we try to honor one such individual member each year from each chapter. Nominations may be submitted to the Executive Director by any Chapter Representative, Committee Chair or Executive Board member prior to January 15th of each year. The Executive Director, at his/her discretion, will select one individual member from each chapter, to receive the Apple Award at the Dave Martens Conference Awards Luncheon. Not all those nominated will necessarily receive this award. Those nominated, who do not receive the award may be placed in a pool of candidates for future consideration. No one will receive this award more than once. Previous award recipients may be found on the NYSAAA website, or P.O.P. Manual. Persons selected must be active members and should be in attendance at the conference and luncheon to receive this award. Presentation of a Certificate of Recognition along with a Crystal Apple paperweight with inscription “In Appreciation” and NYSAAA Logo.
